298 Dean Howell
Position : Winger
Played : 2000-01 (on loan from Crewe)
Appearances : 3
Goals : 0
Dean arrived during the week following the Shrewsbury debacle and it's fair to say eyebrows were raised at the idea that a guy with just one game apiece for Notts County and Crewe could revitalise our fortunes.
Dean made his debut coming on as sub at Southend when we were 3-0 down but started the next game at Hartlepool in the problem left wing position and did well , putting over the cross for Graham Lancashire's goal. Unfortunately he was dreadful in his home debut against Kidderminster ; every time the ball came over to him it seemed to take him by surprise. He was eventually subbed and didn't get another chance.
Since then Dean has flitted between Conference and League without making too many appearances for anyone. He moved on to Southport in 2001 after a loan spell then Morecambe two years later. After a season at Christie Park he signed for Halifax in 2004. A year later he got another chance in League football with Colchester but a double hernia scuppered his ambitions after 4 games and he returned to Halifax. Injury continued to plague him and he left after just one more game signing for Weymouth in 2007. Seventeen games later he was at Grays Athletic then Rushden & Diamonds. In 2008 he again returned to the Football League with Aldershot Town but couldn't hold down a regular place and had a loan spell at Bury playing just 3 games. In the summer of 2010 he signed for Crawley and played in the recent FA Cup game at Old Trafford. As Crawley are doing well in the Blue Square Premier he could return yet again to League football.
Dean also had a spell on the Z-list celebrity circuit around 2007 when he shacked up with Saskia from Big Brother 6 (the nasty dark haired one with enormous boobs) and appeared in a Hello magazine spread.
