341 Martin Pemberton
Position : Left back
Played : 2003-04 (on loan from Stockport)
Appearances : 1
Goals : 0
So now we come to the second innings of Steve Parkin. Let's start by busting this myth that he "saved us" in 2003-04. When he came we were in 20th place ; at the end of the season we finished 21st. It's a funny sort of saviour that takes you down the table. We won seven League games and an FA Cup tie under Alan Buckley ; Parkin managed just five. The change was a bad move and we just survived it.
Martin was signed on loan to cover another suspension of Michael Simpkins. He began his career in 1995 with Oldham making 5 substitute appearances before being released in 1997. He was signed up by Doncaster and was a regular in their horror season of 1997-98 up until March when he moved to Scunthorpe. They let him go in May 1998 after 7 appearances and after a brief trial spell at Hartlepool he signed for Bradford Park Avenue . His luck changed for the better. First he started dating Kimberley Walsh later of Girls Aloud and then he got back into Legue football in 2000 when Mansfield paid £10,000 for him. He had two seasons there making 56 appearances and scoring 5 goals and then moved on a free to Stockport. He had made 26 appearances prior to joining us.
As Martin's only appearance for us was away at Yeovil in January his is probably the least noticed of any Dale careers here. He didn't even finish the game having to come off after 60 anonymous minutes with a back injury.
Martin returned to Stockport but didn't play for them again. He turned up at Farsley Celtic in December 2005 but only made 4 appearances for them. I presume he then retired.
