Darrell  was  brought   in  at  the  start  of  the  season  to  boost the  midfield. He  had  played  for  Parkin  before  at  his  hometown   club  Mansfield   for  whom  he  made  161  appearances  and  scored  24  goals. In  July  2001  he  went  to  Hartlepool  for  £80,000  and  was  a  regular  until  a  bad  knee  injury  in  2004.  He  was  loaned  out  to  Stockport  and  Port  Vale   but  only  played  one  game  for  each  of  them.

Darrell  was  apparently  a  great  personality  in  the  dressing  room  but  unfortunately  he  was  a  crock  and  completely  anonymous  on  the  pitch. He  showed  some  nice  touches  playing  out  wide  at  Accrington  and  scored  away  at  Barnet  (which  I  missed)  but  that was  about  it.

He  returned  to  Hartlepool  just  before  Keith  Hill  took  over  but  was  released  in  the  summer. He  went  to  Salisbury  City  as  a  player  and  has  gradually  worked  his  way  up  to  become  player-manager.
