387 Keith Barker
Position : Forward
Played : 2006-07 ( on loan from Blackburn Rovers )
Appearances : 12
Goals : 0
Keith was the third player to make his debut in the game against Hereford. He had yet to make his League debut but had a loan spell at Cercle Brugge (without appearing for the first team) and an England youth cap under his belt.
A Blackburn fan who I know told me not to expect very much and he wasn't kidding. Keith was almost a carbon copy of Taiwo Atieno from two seasons earlier except he was even more useless at putting the ball away. Keith showed a bit of pace and the occasional flash of skill but there was zero end product. His time with us was encapsulated by two incidents in the north east. The first was his unbelievable hissy-fit at the end of the Darlington game (when he had to be calmed down by Jack the kitman) because we'd scored 5 and he hadn't got any of them. And then the FA Cup replay at Hartlepool - who on earth let him take the crucial penalty ? I knew we were out the moment he stepped forward.
He didn't even make the bench once Keith Hill took over and Blackburn released him at the end of the season. He went to St Patrick's Athletic in Eire for a few months before joining Northwich in January 2008. He made just 4 substitute appearances then gave up football for cricket. He plays for Warwickshire as an all-rounder.
