383 Adam Rundle

Position : Winger

Played : 2006-07  to  2009-10

Appearances : 132

Goals : 18

Adam was the other summer addition arriving on a free from Mansfield. He began his League career at Darlington after failing to make it through the youth system at Newcastle. A year later after just 17 appearances he joined Carlisle for £40,000 in January 2003. He made 44 appearances scoring once but left when Carlisle were relegated in 2004 joining former boss Roddy Collins at Dublin City. Carlton Palmer was playing there at the time and made Adam one of his first signings when he returned to management with Mansfield in January 2005. Adam made 53 appearances scoring 9 goals but was released at the end of 2005-06.

You knew a left winger like Adam wouldn’t be an ever-present but Parkin surpassed himself by dropping him after just one game. Adam scored our first goal of the campaign straight from a corner in the League Cup tie at Doncaster but Parkin gave him only sporadic games despite the fact that he was the only real wide player at the club.

When Keith Hill took over he showed his own doubts about Adam by signing Rory Prendergast but Adam rose to the challenge by lifting his level of performance and making himself first choice again. While no slouch he used skill rather than pace to beat his man and his touch and close control were above League Two standard. He did have his critics for his avoidance of 50/50 challenges and he wasn’t the greatest crosser in the world but he always kept the fullbacks occupied. He had an excellent season in 2007-08 crowned by a superb goal in the Play-off Final at Wembley.

His form slipped down a notch in 2008-09 and by the following season he had lost his place in the starting line-up. In November 2009 he went on loan to Rotherham for a month playing 4 games.

When the January transfer window came round his contract was cancelled by mutual consent and he joined Chesterfield to the end of the season playing 16 games without scoring. He signed a two-year deal with Morecambe in May 2010 but after 17 goalless games went out on loan to Gateshead until the end of the season.
